So some of you are fortunate enough to know my good friend Wai, but for those of you who don't - Get Ready too! I've constructed a small but majorly fun project for myself where I'm going to paint my friend in his various robot poses. Along side him will be some of my favourite quotes he shouts while doing the robot.

There is no deadline for this project of mine and no expiry on our friendship - so expect to see a lot of this character as time goes on!

An amazing pastry chef and friend commissioned me to paint this latest piece of mine! It's all too good, when you find a friend who wants a triptych painting containing a Squid and a Mermaid. Those were her only "demands" and the rest was up to me! Sorry though Anna, an attractive mermaid is not a mermaid painted by me.

So I just finished a pretty big job that was digitally done and labour intensive! I had a great time working on it but I was dying to loosen up and try out some other concepts of mine!

I started two new paintings for fun and experience.

The first is a portrait I hope to make look a lot more interesting and the second is of 2 pink things that don't have reflections yet.

Although these two works aren't good representations of what I'm about to say, I really want to make my work have more of an emotional connection with the viewer. Most great works of art contain mood and feeling and I need to start learning how to wield these two unteachable principals. I want to learn how to make people feel.

So it's been quite awhile since I last posted anything on this blog and I thought at 5:38 in the morning, that it'd be a good idea too. I've been really busy lately, doing random creations like painting a 10 foot long, long board with my good friend David! And getting things in line for the next step(s) to my website! Good things are coming! And updates will follow with this page too! - *on a side note for this blog: it has now become "ill droppings", and will be a wild card for my stuff that really has no place anywhere but has to be created!

Last Sunday I was just taking up space and air so I decided to
break my fast from TSA and go for some extra life drawing.
It was a spontaneous decision but I'm so happy that I did it!
I almost forgot for a second that the whole reason why I'm
in this illustration game is because I love to draw.

During my session I dropped my 4B general and it was toast!
You know what I'm saying. The worst position you could
be in - sharpen - break - sharpen - br e a k.
Like damn man, now I'm paying ten dollars to look at a naked guy.
lol But dun-dun-dun-dun-dunt-DUNT! I
yelled out good ol' "E-CHO-GE-O" and ask a korean guy if I could borrow
some of whatever he could give me.
Of course - conte - the thing I never use.

But whatever, I actually enjoyed it and
it took me away from drawing so technically.
It was a nice feeling to draw with tone instead of line.

So I should have been working on an essay that's due for me this Friday but
instead I thought it better to get some grey scale practice in. Looking at
busts and casts inspire me to draw and paint to know end (wish I owned one) so I
decided to do just that.

One of my life goals is to sit down in front of a fountain, any
fountain for that matter in Florence and draw that mother up!
Just thinking about that gets me amped!
Like my ex-girlfriend always said to me, "Someday Jesse, someday."

Birch Bark

For our very first illustration assignment we had to come up with a personal guilty pleasure and create an illustration for it. My guilty pleasure was ripping birch bark from birch trees.

This pleasure came about from when I was little and would frequently go to North Bay to see my Grandparents. They had a cottage there with birch trees that I would strip before the end of our visit.

Looking back on all this and relating to my illustration, it was the joy of revealing something underneath the surface that I found so entertaining. It felt like it was for my eyes only, as if the tree regrew it's "skin" just for me, so I could rip it away again.

An hour study of a rubber duck from my shower!

From the looks of it there's a lot more to be done,
especially in the folds area of the painting. Reason being is that, for this study and more to come I want to push myself to keep a steady pace and learn to paint faster.

This 4X6 illustration was created for my Core class. I had too much fun doing this, I can't lie - I love Christmas so much!!!

We had to design a card for an international company and couldn't illustrate anything to "Christmas like!" - F'in Downer if you ask me, but I plugged in the Christmas music and went to work.

People should realize that you can't even possibly come close to illustrating what Christmas really is! Idiots get caught up in angels and Santa - So the fuck what! You can't escape the Wonderness of Christmas anyways - A green tree is always going to be the be all and end all of Christmas symbols, whether you like it or not! You can't escape it! So GO hug someone, it's Christmas!

Fat Joe has always been on my roster of rappers that I listen too, but never on my top five. Recently though I've been listening to him and his most recent album that was released on March 11th, called "The Elephant in the Room". I must say that I'm feeling it and listened to it relentlessly while doing this portrait.

I have to say that there's something I enjoy about drawing rap artists. Not sure what it is, but I think it may have something to do with there charisma and there looks of attitude.

Yet another assignment for Gary Taxali here. This illustration is my idea of "Good vs. Evil". To be honest, this wasn't in my opinion my best concept for "Good vs. Evil" but it was surly the one I was most excited about executing - and at the end of the year, it's hard to feel that way. Like I said, it's not the deepest concept so it's pretty self explanatory but it's of a royalty figure and the opposite of her is coming out from under her dress, which in my mind, would be peasant's and live stock. So who's good and who's evil?

This illustration was a challenge since I tried a new execution that I've never experienced before. It was transferring an image using matte medium. I've been exposed to this a bunch and have always wanted to try and make it work for me an my illustrations but have never had the chance. With this new assignment from Taxali, I knew it was my opportunity!

The assignment was to illustrate a fortune from a random fortune cookie that my professor handed out. My fortune was "An old friend, will introduce you to new people and pleasures". Seeing how fortune cookies are so cliche and "to the point" I tried to challenge myself by taking cliche imagery like doing drugs and illustrating it in a way that didn't seem everyday. I'm happy with the final result and I have to give a big shout out too my good friend Rad Dan who helped me with the execution of transferring and painting the image.

This was the second assignment due for my Illustration Core class taught by Gary Taxali. In this illustration, he wanted us to illustrate a portrait of a still living, famous person. I wanted my concept to actually fall into a current event, pretending like this was an actual commission. When I went through all the celebrities I knew of (which isn't many) and then counted all the ones I would actually like to do a portrait of, I was so happy to find that Jay-Z would block in my mental check list. He recently left Def Jam and is going to start a label with Apple.
